If the Golden Dawn were a religion…

The GD Creed

We believe in the Hermetic Mysteries, source of all magical worth, and maker of all Orders, visible and invisible.

We believe in McGregor Mathers, the best of all Mathers, begotten from the Mysteries, before even the Golden Dawn, mystery from mystery, secret from secret, light from light.

Through him all Orders were made.

For us and for our advancement he came down to London and Paris, was smitten with Moina and became more than human.

For our sake he was libelled by Crowley and smeared by Westcott; he suffered expulsion and was rejected.

In Paris he rose again according to the Grimories.

He entered into the Vault and is seated near the Secret Chiefs.

He will reincarnate again to judge the traditionalist and reconstructionist and his Chiefdom will have no end.

We believe in the Secret Chiefs, the givers of Charters, who proceed from the mysteries and who are worshipped with the mystery and the Mathers, who have spoken through [insert name of Temple Chief]

We believe in One holy, apostolic and correctly chartered Order.

We acknowledge only the one, True Initiation for entry into the temple.

We look for transmutation of the dead into immortal solar bodies, looking down upon the world to come. Amen.

Apologies to those who wrote the actual Nicene Creed, the affirmation of which continues to be a depth spiritual experience for me (see here). Thanks.

I just sprayed my drink, nice one Peregrin.
How about a Hail Mathers, full of grace?
    😉

Do we believe in magical lead-lined underwear?

  3. Arcad · November 22, 2011

This was truely overdue! To be recited during each temple opening I assume

This is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time…. fits right in with the previous blog post you put up.

    In LVX,
    Samuel

Thanks guys 🙂 @MvdV – certainly Mathers is full of grace, and given his penchant for dressing up, perhaps he did indeed believe in lead-lined underwear, Morgan 😉

Well, yes, this was a result of an idle ten minutes at lunch, but also many months pondering on how certain GD factions are presenting our tradition in almost religious terms. Listing what we need to accept to be immortal, separating us out into the goats and the sheep etc. It disturbs me greatly and I think the essence of this little creed, is subconsciously accepted each temple meeting in certain groups, sadly, Arcad 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed it Samuel (and others) – I think those raised or who know the Nicene Creed would enjoy it the most 🙂

Hail Mathers, full of grace, the Third are with thee,
Blessed art though amongst occultists, and blessed is the fruit of thy toil, Golden.
    Holy Mathers, ruler of fate,
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our ascension into the presence of our Holy Guardian Angel and that of GOD myself,
    Amen

Ah, MvdV – you’ve done it again!

Very cool and amusing indeed. Love the “GOD myself” clincher 🙂

Hey Alex – sorry missed your comment – very droll indeed 🙂 You’ll probably find yourself victim of some silly Fatwa though 🙂

Consider adding a filioque clause which will split the factions. Never forget, there is only the quick and the hungry
